Town’s cup hopes dashed

BRIGHOUSE Town’s hopes of Northern Counties East League Cup glory were shattered at the last eight stage following last night’s 2-0 defeat by Shirebrook Town at St Giles Road.

The Division One side were under the cosh for most of the game but unlike last Saturday, when Paul Quinn’s men hit seven goals past Parkgate, the hosts were unable to find the net.

Shirebrook kept their belief and then hit Brighouse with two goals in the final five minutes to book a semi-final date with Premier Division side Winterton Rangers on a date to be confirmed.

Brighouse will now look to regroup ahead of Saturday’s Premier Division home clash with Long Eaton United whom they beat 2-1 in Nottinghamshire earlier this month.
