Town see off league new boys

Brighouse Town picked up another three points following a 2-1 success over Toolstation NCEL Premier Division new boys Basford United.

Town had a superb opportunity to score after 11 minutes when leading scorer Tom Matthews went one-on-one with ‘keeper Curtis McDonald who quickly went to ground and pushed the ball out.

Ernest Boafo then took the ball into the Basford area but was unable to get in a clear shot.

Town continued to pile on the pressure with McDonald denying Ryan Hall before Basford’s Martin Carruthers hit the bar.

Hall again took the ball into the Basford area before passing to Luke Gibson but McDonald was equal to his shot.

Town’s persistence paid off in the 28th minute when Matthews buried the ball but Basford’s Theo Smith responded only for Giles to make a superb save.

Matthews then tested McDonald as Town went into the break 1-0 up

Matthews fired wide og a gaping goal just before the hour afterr which Basford responded made several forays at the Town goal but Giles and his defenders put a stop to the attacks.

Boafo was replaced by Kieran Ryan and within minutes Town went 2-0 up with Luke Gibson firing past past McDonald.

Ten minutes later Gibson was benched and Patrick McGuire entered the field.

Basford pulled a goal back with 12 minutes to go when Carruthers fired in from 20 yards out.
