Update: New date for Brighouse Town’s FA Vase tie after postponement

Brighouse Town’s FA Vase cup clash in the Isle of Wight has been postponed due to heavy snow on the island this morning

The squad, fans and committee members were due to set off this morning to Newport by coach.

Some fans were also heading down to the match by plane.

Yesterday the two clubs were in discussions with the FA and had planned for the game to go ahead.

It was hoped that with coaches setting off early, they would be far enough south on their journey before the worst of the forecasted weather for Yorkshire arrives.

However, Brighouse Town posted on their Twitter account that, due to heavy snow this morning, they will not be travelling due to safety of players and supporters.

Newport IW football club also confirmed that the game had to be called off early due to the heavy snow sustained over the Isle of Wight on Friday morning.

The club said the decision has been made with Brighouse Town in mind, saving the away team a long journey south at considerable expense.

The match has now been rescheduled for Saturday January 26, 2013 with a 3pm kick off at St George’s Park.
