Vardy ignored as Ennis-Hill is SPOTY favourite

Despite his record breaking heroics in 2015, former Halifax Town striker Jamie Vardy has missed out on making the Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.

The Leicester City player’s odds with William Hill had tumbled from 80/1 to 20/1 by Saturday and his omission is probably the big name missing off the list.

Instead, it is Jessica Ennis-Hill who heads the betting ahead of Andy Murray at 2/1 and Tyson Fury at 4/1.

“After a slow start to the year for British sport, 2015 has been one of the best in recent memory and the race is on for the coveted award,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

“We could also have the first female winner since 2006.”

BBC Sports Personality of the Year betting: 6/5 Jessica Ennis-Hill, 2/1 Andy Murray, 4/1 Tyson Fury, 10/1 Lewis Hamilton, 20/1 Chris Froome, 33/1 Mo Farah, 66/1 Kevin Sinfield, 80/1 Adam Peaty, 80/1 Greg Rutherford, 100/1 Lucy Bronze, 100/1 Max Whitlock, 100/1 Lizzie Armitstead.
