Town boss Chris Millington says forward Matty Warburton is on the verge of being back in contention as he nears a return to fitness.

Warburton hasn't played for Halifax since their 1-0 defeat at Eastleigh just over a month ago due to a knee injury.

"He did the full session on Monday and will do again on Thursday and Friday so he's getting very close to being in contention," Millington said.

The Halifax manager also said attacker Osayamen Osawe, who has played just three times since joining the club in August, is progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring problem.

"He's taking part in more of the sessions now. He's possibly a bit behind Warby but getting closer," Millington said.

The Town boss says vice-captain Jordan Keane is "progressing nicely, as expected" from his foot injury.

One player who won't be involved for Town over the next month is winger Sam Smart after he joined fellow National League club Dagenham and Redbridge on loan.

"He's going out to get some games," said Millington.

"It's important for players who aren't playing regularly to make sure they maintain their sharpness.

"He remains part of our squad, we hope he'll play a part for us going forward but at the moment we felt it was important for him to get some minutes."

But Millington said Smart's departure doesn't make it more likely there will be any additions to the squad.
