Supporters were left wondering why Killock had been left out of Weaver’s starting line-up against Stockport County on Saturday, following Dave McGurk’s injury.

Former Leeds United defender Matt Heath partnered the returning Leigh Franks at centre half and Killock had to settle for a spot on the bench.

Killock has not started for Town since being dropped last month, but Weaver said there was no fall out.

“I just wanted one change. Dave McGurk plays on the right-hand side of the two and Shane is left-footed,” he said.

“I didn’t want to change Heathy around because he has got used to that position. If it had been Heathy out, Shane would have played.

“Shane is my club captain. He’s a great lad and a great player but we have four good centre halves.

“We had three clean sheets when he came out. We had the Solihull game when we had the sending off. Defensively, we have conceded goals on the counter attack that have not necessarily been the centrebacks’ fault.”

Town return to Vanarama North action on Saturday at newly promoted Chorley before welcoming Gainsborough Trinity to the CNG Stadium.

And Weaver urged his side to become more brutal at set-pieces, after wasting 18 chances from corners against Stockport.

“We weren’t ruthless in the box,” added Weaver. “I wanted one of the defenders to go slap one in.

“It was too easy. If the keeper goes into the back of net, at least he knows next time he’s coming out it’s going to be a handful.

“We didn’t do that. We have to be more physically robust. People have to have that if they want to play for me.

“I always want good honest lads, but good honest lads with that edge.”
