Crow Nest trio runners-up

They played a nine-hole Tri-Am Stableford in wintery conditions.

The early starters suffered from the tail end of the overnight storms but the weather cleared throughout the middle of the day.

However, the very last players came in with the sleet chasing them through the door.

Huddersfield Golf Club trio Alison Tracy, Maxine Rowlands and Alison Graham were wide-margin winners with 35 points.

Van Whitehill, Julie Langfield and Ann Stafford took second place for Crow Nest Park with 30 points.

Julie Langfield, one of the organisers, said it had been a great turn-out considering the weather.

Nick Marsh’s Australian adventure ended with defeat to fellow England Golf representative Paul Howard in the first match play round at the New South Wales Amateur Championship.

English amateur champion Marsh lost 2 and 1 to Howard, who then won his next head-to-head to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the rain-hit tournament.

Marsh had followed up an opening 69 at Monash with a disappointing 76 at Killara, which included two double bogeys.

That put the Halifax-born player joint 21st in a field of more than 200 and up against Howard, from Southport and Ainsdale GC, who had qualified second behind newly-crowned Australian amateur champion Cameron Davis.

Marsh has been playing in some of Australia’s top amateur events throughout January, and won the medal for the best stroke play score at the Australian Amateur Championship held at The Australian/The Lakes GC.
