Halifax West End quartet battle through to Lexus Regional final

FOUR Halifax West End GC players are one step away from competing in the Lexus Challenge National Final at The Marriott Manchester on September 23.

Paul Thrush (78-15-63) and Simon Heslop (73-8-65) were the top two qualifiers in Division 1 while Ed Edwards (81-16-65) and Richard Briscoe (85-19-66) go through from Division 2.

Briscoe will be looking to go one stage further than last year when he also qualified for the Regional Final.

Over 100 competitors battled the testing conditions of wind and rain and as well as qualifying for the next stage of the Lexus Challenge both Thrush and Edwards qualify for the club’s annual medal final on Saturday, September 19.

Men’s captain Gordon Abernethy and ladies’ captain Judith Abernethy have won this year’s mixed foursomes against another family team of Mal and Charlotte Heath. It is the first time that a team made up of the men’s and ladies’ captains has won the event.

John Healey and Mike Turner have fought through four rounds of this year’s Halifax-Huddersfield Union handicap foursomes to reach the final at Huddersfield GC on Sunday, September 20, in which they will play Outlane.
