Schnacke, who works on the green staff at West End in Halifax, helped Huddersfield step up on last year’s runners-up position.

The plus two handicapper had to settle for a 74 second time around but still had the best 36-hole gross score by a couple of shots and that helped the Fixby quartet total 583 for a two-shot win over Dewsbury.

Todmorden were 14 shots further back in third in an event sponsored by Glenbrae.

Bradley Hall, last year’s winners on their own course, had to settle for fourth this time while the host club, who included Union president David Pullen in their line-up, were fifth.

Ryburn, Woodsome Hall, Outlane and Hanging Heaton filled the bottom four places in the 15-team line-up and were relegated to the second division for 2015.

Runners-up Dewsbury had the consolation of picking up two prizes with James Ward’s 70 the best gross in the morning and Daniel Hartley’s 68 the best in the afternoon.
