Valley retain team title

Willow Valley retained the Halifax-Huddersfield Union Team Championship at Bradley Park on Sunday.

In spite of fine weather, the course was challenging with little run on the fairways after plenty of rain.

Hanging Heaton led the way for a few hours but Willow Valley came storming through to win the gross score event.

Their quartet of Stephen Butcher, Steven Wood, Shaun Helliwell and Chris Sweeney totalled 343 to beat Hanging Heaton by six shots.

None of Valley’s players had been in the successful line-up at Woodsome Hall last year.

The competition was very well run by executive members John Lawrence, Chris Naylor and Barry Suddick.

There was a prize for the best individual nett score which went to Ollie Barstow from the host club with a 69.
