Halifax battled to a 34-27 home win over Stocksbridge yesterday to maintain their fine start following promotion to Yorkshire Three.

Giles Hetherington’s side have now won four of their first five games to climb to fourth in the standings.

Stocksbridge pushed their hosts all the way.

However, Tony Curtis, Toby Turner (2), Danny Mellor and Elliott Hoyle all crossed for tries while Richard Cole added nine points with his boot.

Halifax will look to continue their fine run against unbeaten Thornesians at Ovenden Park next Saturday.
