Halifax sunk by late try

Halifax RUFC suffered in the mud as a late try saw them slip to a 15-10 home defeat against Bramley Phoenix in Yorkshire Three yesterday.

Bramley had got off to a fast start with an early try but Halifax hit back through Nick Bell, the full back showing great skill to break through and score. Richard Cole converted.

That saw Halifax lead 7-5 at the break but it was Bramley who scored first after the interval.

Halifax continued to press and they were rewarded with a penalty from Cole.

With the scores level, Halifax pushed for the win and they went close on a couple of occasions.

However, Bramley turned defence into attack after winning possession. Exploiting an overlap on the blind side, the visitors were able to grab the match winning try.

Halifax Vandals went seven points clear at the top of Yorkshire Four yesterday when they ground out a 10-0 win away to fifth-placed Burley at Kirkstall.

Third-placed Wensleydale were decisive 28-3 home winners over second-placed Hessle in the only other game in the section.
