Halifax well beaten, Vandals clear at top

It was always going to be tough against the visitors, who hadn’t lost in 45 games. Their cause was not helped by the late withdrawal of Josh Greenwood-MacDonald.

Halifax battled gamely throughout, but they were their own worst enemy as their mistakes gave Wetherby the platform from which to attack.

Despite conceding three first-half tries, Halifax remained in the contest, having wasted four clear-cut opportunities to score themselves. Only handling errors and desperate defence kept the hosts at bay.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Halifax unable to take advantage of their opportunities, while Wetherby were simply ruthless.

The scoreline was harsh on Halifax, who deserved more out of the contest, although Wetherby look to be marching towards Yorkshire Two.

Halifax Vandals went six points clear at the top of Yorkshire Four yesterday.

Jamie Bloem’s side were 15-5 home winners over Rotherham Clifton while second-placed Hessle lost 16-12 at home to Burley.
