Halifax win pitch battle and game

Having seen their match against Rotherham Phoenix called off the previous week due to waterlogging, volunteers from the club worked hard throughout Saturday morning to get the pitch playable.

The move paid dividends with the home side recording a much-deserved and a much-needed win.

Skipper Richard Cole scored all the points with a try, conversion and penalty.

Halifax started brightly and were rewarded for going through phases when Cole sniped around the fringes of the ruck to score.

Halifax could have scored twice more but they were unable to find the final pass.

However, their superb defence meant the closest Baildon came to scoring in the first half was with a long-range penalty which sailed wide.

The second half saw Baildon up their game but Halifax frustrated the visitors with scrambling defence.

Halifax had chances of their own but they had to settle for a Cole penalty to ease them into a 10-0 lead.

In the last 10 minutes Baildon threw everything at the Halifax defence and although they slotted over two penalties they couldn’t cross the home team’s try line.
