IN PICTURES: The weekend's sporting action across Calderdale

Sowerby Bridge stayed on course to go one better than last season when they won through to the Halifax AFL Challenge Cup final on Saturday.

Bridge were impressive 5-2 winners against champions Shelf FC at Natty Lane (see pictures) in their bid to step up on last term’s final defeat against Greetland at the Shay.

Their opponents will be Hebden Royd Red Star, who beat Shelf United 2-1 with a late penalty from Lewis Cockroft at Shroggs Park, Lee Mount.

Three top-section matches in the Halifax Sunday League yesterday produced 25 goals with Siddal Place versus Hollins Holme leading the way (see pictures). Place won 8-3 while Bradshaw had a 6-3 home win over Ryburn Valley to go second and Waiters Arms won 4-1 away to Ryburn United.

Brighouse Town were in sparkling form in a 4-1 home win over Lincoln United in the Evo-Stik NPL East section (see pictures).

There were mixed results for Calderdale’s four rugby union teams in Yorkshire One. Leaders Old Crossleyans scrambled a 17-15 win at Hullensians while next Saturday’s visitors Heath beat Dinnington 21-18 at North Dean (see pictures from both games).

Old Rishworthian are bottom but took heart from an improved display in a 29-14 defeat by Middlesbrough at Copley (see pictures) while Old Brodleians slipped to sixth place after losing 20-10 away to likely title contenders Moortown.
