Lightcliffe were unable to lift the Bradford League’s Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup for a second time in three years yesterday.
Alex Stead’s side, who had upset Cleckheaton and Pudsey Congs earlier in the competition, lost by 106 runs to Bradford and Bingley at Wagon Lane.
The hosts made a steady start after electing to bat, Rob Burton and Jonathan Whiteoak bowling tightly.
Wicketkeeper Charlie Best made 50 and Ryan Cooper 47 to help the hosts to 140 for three with just less than 10 overs left.
Bradford and Bingley then put their foot on the gas and added another 93 runs from the last 58 balls to send the score climbing to a useful 237 for seven.
Chris Greenwood was the most successful of Lightcliffe’s four spinners but his four wickets cost 68 runs.
The Wakefield Road men’s hopes were left in tatters when they plunged to 46 for five with young quickies Matthew Simpson and Jack Hartley doing the damage.
Overseas player Suleman Khan made a defiant 47 from 45 balls and long-serving wicketkeeper Mark Horne was next best with 22 as Lightcliffe were bowled out for 131.
