Major bike racing event at Shibden

There is racing for all levels from under 10s to novice and elite riders on a specially constructed course which passes close to the historic Hall at the top of the picturesque park.

The third and final round of the series is at Granary Square, King’s Cross, London on November 14.

This weekend’s two-day event will have cross skills sessions, a War of the Roses trophy, a floodlit night race, live music, food and drink, retail stalls and cowbells. It is free for spectators.

Event organiser Emma Osenton said the course would be world class, the nearest thing England had to the Kopenberg cross in Belgium.

She urged people to come and have a go - all they needed was a cross bike or mountain bike and a helmet.

Entry on the day is open until 30 minutes before each race. Women are particularly encouraged to enter and there are female-only races.

Cyclo-cross races typically take place in the autumn and winter and consist of many laps of a short (1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles.

Riders must quickly dismount and carry the bike while navigating the obstructions.
