Ball is hoping for less drama against Burley

Old Rishworthians resume their assault on the Yorkshire Three title at home to Burley tomorrow, with coach Damian Ball hoping for an improvement on last week’s 23-21 success over Thornesians.

Ball was at the centre of late drama against the Doncaster outfit; throwing an intercepted pass that allowed the visitors to go 21-16 ahead with minutes to go.

However, he then went on to redeem himself with the last-play winner as the Copley side dodged a second defeat of the season.

“It wasn’t a great performance by any means,” said Ball.

“I think we were pretty fortunate to win in the end.

“We were awarded a penalty on our own 40 and the referee said if we kicked for touch that would be the last play.

“We ended up running the ball, scoring and then kicking the conversion to take the points.

“I’m hoping for a bit less drama tomorrow.”

Rishies will be without several senior players tomorrow.

Ben Robinson, Fraser Swarbrooke and Simon Edmondson are all unavailable against the Leeds outfit.

That will give the opportunity for some of the squad players to impress.

“We’re going to take a look at some of the players from the second team and maybe a couple of younger players as well,” said Ball.

“It’s a good chance to see who is capable of playing at this level.

“I think we’re reasonably confident we can still get the job done.

“However,we will certainly be hoping to turn in a better all round performance this weekend.”
