Old Crossleyans are out of the Yorkshire Cup at the first round stage after losing 17-5 at Malton and Norton.
The North One East rivals could hardly be separated during a hard-fought first half, with a converted try giving the home side a 7-0 interval advantage.
A half time downpour added further grit to an an already attritional contest, but again it was the North Yorkshire side who adapted better, scoring a second converted try on threequarter time and adding a penalty soon after for a commanding 17-0 lead.
Crocs continued to press and finally cracked their hosts’ defence when centre Leigh Thomas slashed through the defence 30 metres out and ran away to score, although too far out to add the conversion.
Crocs kick off their league programme at home to Beverley on Saturday.
