Defence is the key as Halifax boys shine at Leeds University

HALIFAX Boys 10 and under played their first competitive games at Leeds University, turning out four times and did not concede a goal.

The first game was against a combined team made up when Bradford had to pull out of tournament.

They were no match for Halifax who scored five goals without reply. Harrison Thomas (2), Kaenan Sutcliffe, Jakob Morley and Sam Bizley were the scorers.

Halifax continued to show good passing and dribbling skills in their second game against Morley with Jack Thomson and Ethan Marshall tackling well.

They dominated the game but struggled to find the net until Lucas Metcalfe received a fine pass from Thomas and showed good control before firing a powerful shot into the corner for a 1-0 win.

The third game against Wakefield saw Halifax find their goalscoring touch with goals coming regularly in the 5-0 win. Scorers were Bizley (2), Thomas, Sutcliffe and Morley.

The fourth game against a stronger Slazengers team was more competitive and there were few chances created.

Thomas did well as the teams stopper and Morley covered all areas of the pitch with some intelligent running in a 0-0 draw.
