Gladwin stopped in second round

Halifax’s Scott Gladwin was brave but outclassed on the undercard of the Kell Brook IBF welterweight final eliminator card at Sheffield on Saturday evening.

While Brook knocked out Argentina’s Hector Saldivia in the third round, Gladwin didn’t last that long against Birmingham’s Khalid Yafai, who stopped him 65 seconds into the second round.

Big underdog Gladwin (8st 4lbs 5oz) was looking to bounce back from his first defeat as a pro, when halted in the sixth by Gavin McDonnell at Doncaster on September 1.

However, he was down four times in the first round - one was ruled a slip - as the slick and unbeaten Yafai (8st 6lbs) landed heavy body punches.

The fourth knock down came on the bell and although Gladwin showed heart to come out for the second round, a left hook to the body put him down again and referee John Latham decided enough was enough.
