Halifax will see a cyclocross race with a difference on Sunday when the former Shroggs tip in the Wheatley valley hosts the first edition of Citycross.

Halifax-based under 23 international Jack Clarkson and former Olympic mountain biker Louise Robinson head the fields for the senior races, with a prize list worth more than £8,000 up for grabs across seven categories.

The event, which has been organised by local rider Emma Osenton in conjunction with Brighton-based clothing firm Morvelo, will see riders do battle in a series of motocross-style knockout heats before a winner-takes-all decider.

Organisers are keen to attract casual riders - mountain bikes are welcome - as well as seasoned campaigners, with races for under 12s, youths, juniors, women, novices, seniors and veterans over a course featuring a variety of man-made obstacles.

A variety of trade stands and food stalls will be in attendance, with the junior racing starting at 9am and the seniors at 10am.

The senior final is expected to start around 3pm and further details, including online entry, are available at www.citycross.co.uk
