Heath’s Montgomery makes jump to Vandals

Halifax Vandals will give a debut to the former Heath club captain David Montgomery when they host Marist in Yorkshire Four tomorrow.

Montgomery, who has played both back row and centre for in Yorkshire One this season, made the move to Warley a week ago, but was unavailable for the trip to Hornsea because of work commitments.

That game ended in a 43-12 reverse, leaving coach Ed Morane to declare tomorrow’s fixture a “must win”.

“It’s a game we need to win and it’s a game we should be confident of winning,” said Morane.

“Monty should rip it up in this league, absolutely rip it up.

“He’s a very good player, with and without the ball.

“Last week was a close game for a long time, I think we were only 3-0 down after half an hour despite defending our own line for most of that time.

“We slipped off the pace a little bit after that, but we had some good individual performances; Mark Kazmierski was bloody brilliant.”

Brett Swiffen and Jon Isherwood, who were both unavailable last weekend, should return tomorrow.
