Halifax Ladies seconds need only one point from their last two games to win Yorkshire Three after a 3-2 victory away to City of York thirds on Saturday.
Two teams who have been battling for top spot for months began with tight defending and play moving from end to end.
After 20 minutes a York player broke through one on one with ‘keeper Annie Staples and made it 1-0.
The visitors came hard out of the blocks after half time.
Midfielders Margaret Bottomley, Ruth Prosser, Claire Waldron, Adele Cocker and Lauren O’Neill worked hard to create chances and it wasn’t long before Michaela Holroyd equalised.
Halifax piled on the pressure and won a penalty corner. Alison McManus came up from defence and smashed the ball into the net.
Then Dani Parker scored Halifax’s third goal 15 minutes from the end.
Defenders McManus, Sue Kelly, Tracey Helliwell and Jess Speight couldn’t prevent York pulling one back with 10 minutes to go but Halifax held out.
