SCAMMONDEN racing driver Daniel Lloyd benefited from some unique pre-season preparation when the Porsche Experience Centre hosted its fourth annual ‘Get Race Fit’ event – featuring special guest, FIA Formula One World Championship star Mark Webber.
Organised by the Porsche Human Performance Team at its Silverstone base, the day gave 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Lloyd an opportunity to test his race fitness, challenge himself at the wheel of the i-Zone Performance race simulator and obtain essential advice on sports nutrition.
Of course, the highlight of the event was an insightful question and answer session with Red Bull Racing’s Webber in which the Australian offered expert opinion regarding what it takes to succeed at the highest level. To cap off a fantastic day, Lloyd emerged victorious from a competitive ‘shoot-out’ behind the wheel of the i-Zone simulator – winning him a signed cap from the F1 ace.
As the longest serving driver in the Red Bull team’s history, and a multiple Grand Prix winner to boot, Webber’s advice certainly provided plenty of food for thought for 19-year-old Lloyd as he prepares for the biggest season of his motor racing career to date in Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
“The day was absolutely mega”, said the West Yorkshireman, “We started off with a nutritional talk and a chance to talk with Mark and ask him about how he prepared for an F1 weekend. After that we had a yoga session, which was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but I learned some really useful things that’ll definitely help my training.
“After lunch, there was a Q&A session with Mark – it felt weird talking to such a superstar of F1, he’s a really down to earth guy though. To get that high in motorsport, to achieve so much and yet still be a normal guy was fantastic to see. Winning the shoot-out at i-Zone was a great way to top off the day and meeting Mark really gives you the inspiration to work harder than ever to try and reach the top.”
Ahead of his maiden campaign in the highly prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship, Lloyd is now focusing his preparations on his first test of 2012 with Team Parker Racing which will take place next month.
From there, the season itself will get underway on March 31/April 1 at Kent’s Brands Hatch Indy Circuit as support to the British Touring Car Championship.
