NEW West End men’s captain John Stevens has welcomed the move to allow lady members to play alongside the men in Saturday competitions.
Stevens took over in the role at Saturday’s AGM and will be assisted by new vice captain Robert Priestley.
In his address to the membership Stevens outlined plans to help improve the club, including the move for men and ladies to play together in their respective competitions in the wake of the merger between the English Golf Union and English Women’s Golf Association.
Stevens said: “Saturdays have long been the domain of male competition; this is no longer the case.
“Tuesday-only competitions for our ladies are very restrictive as many who work or are junior members are restricted to what time they can play.
“The club has over 100 years of tradition and is ever mindful of progress. We will embrace change if we feel it will benefit the club and its members.”
The club also has restructured the membership categories and now offers five and six day membership, priced £495.00 (Monday to Friday) for 10 months and £549.00 (Sunday to Friday) for 10 months. More details from the club’s administration manager on (01422) 341878 ext 1.
