Rishies’ mid-table ambition

Old Rishworthians will look to step out of the bottom three in Yorkshire Two for the first time with a home win over West Leeds tomorrow.

Leeds are currently four points clear of Rishworthians in 10th, with Knottingley sandwiched in the middle.

A bonus point win for Damian Ball’s side, who were impressive in defeat at Leodensians last weekend, could be enough to pitch them away from the relegation scrap and towards mid-table.

“It’s a big game for both sides and it’s one we’ve targeted,” said Ball.

“We really performed well last week against an established Yorkshire Two side.

“In some respects, it was actually our best performance of the season and it was really disappointing not to even get a bonus point out of it.

“We were dominant for long periods but just came up with a few silly errors that cost us in the end.

“You can see the improvement though, the players are starting to believe in their ability to compete at this level.

“We’ve done a lot of work on their mentality and it’s paying off.”

Rishies will have talismanic Kiwi Frank Watene available tomorrow, although Luke Flanagan and Nick Faulkner are ruled out through injury and unavailability respectively.
