Unbeaten HAFC pick up their first piece of silverware

HAFC under 15s Colts team were only formed in the summer of 2011 but they have already landed their first piece of silverware after being crowned champions of Division 4A of the RCD Huddersfield Junior League following a 4-0 home win over Shelf which also meant they have gone through the league campaign unbeaten at home.

The majority of the play was in the Shelf half of the field and they were kept under constant pressure with only the odd Shelf break. That being said, whilst the game was goalless, HAFC ‘keeper Matty Berry made a good save at his near post to keep his side in the game, but from them on, it was pretty much all one way traffic.

Ryan Haworth opened the scoring with his 21st goal of the season and then a Shelf defender put the ball in his own net. The third was another own goal before Eddie Dickinson hit a great shot from just outside the penalty box that gave the Shelf keeper no chance.

CLIFTON Rangers under 15s maintained their Huddersfield League Division One title challenge with a nerve-wracking 4-3 win over Hartshead.

A muddy pitch was always going to produce mistakes and Hartshead’s first shot on goal slipped through keeper Smith’s hands to give them the lead. It took Clifton 25 minutes to pull level thanks to Josh Margison and the teams were level at the break.

Clifton finally hit the front 10 minutes into the second half with Margison unselfishly passing to Callum Charlton to slot home. Curtis Ioannou then saw his shot deflect off a defender to give Rangers a two goal lead.

Hartshead piled forward and gained a penalty which was retaken but then missed. Clifton defended far too deep and allowed Hartshead to dominate the next 10 minutes in which they scored twice to level the game.

Keeper Smith then made a magnificent fingertip save to keep Clifton in the game and with just seven minutes left they bagged the vital winner from top scorer Matty Rowles who outpaced the Hartshead defence to give Clifton the spoils.
