Warriors show their intent

Former champions Warriors are likely to be a force to be reckoned with again after opening their Halifax and District Table Tennis Association Summer League account in style.

Warriors faced a potentially tough match against Marsh Conservative Club A, but an 8-1 victory by the former champions against solid-looking opposition gave the rest of the teams in Division One something to think about.

Dave Wood and Keith Skarz lead the way with fine maximums and were well supported by Shaun Forbes who chipped in with two wins. Only Glyn Normanton could get off the mark for Marsh as he picked up one set with victory over Forbes.

Unfortunately, neither teammates Dave Blackburn or Bob Sanderson were able to make an impression as Warriors eased to an emphatic victory.

Players should note that this season’s AGM will take place at the Table Tennis Centre on Wednesday, July 18 commencing at 7.30pm. The event will also include the presentation of the Winter League awards.

Meanwhile, this season’s Halifax Summer Veterans Open Championships will take place at the centre over the weekend of August 4-5. This is the 10th staging of the event and as it is growing in popularity early entry is recommended.
