Halifax Cricket League averages proof of some fine performances from the season

The players heading the three divisional First XIs batting averages all topped 300 runs, which in a normal season would have given them the opportunity to hit 1,000 runs. The bowling returns were of similar vein and the 29 wickets each, obtained by Si Collins (Bradshaw) and Tom Belfield (Sowerby Bridge), were well on target for a 60-plus wicket return in a full season.

In the Second XIs veteran Phil Sharples (Queensbury) topped the scoring charts with a fine 250 runs, but missed out on winning his division’s averages. Ibbi Mir (Blackley) had the best batting average overall of 75.00 whilst Harry Clarke produced the best bowling of the season with a 7-19 return.

In the Sunday League the bowling average of 4.68 from Wajid Ali (Booth) stood out, helped considerably by the best season’s performance with an analysis of 5.3-5-0-6 against Buttershaw St Paul’s.
