Halifax’s Stan Moody is out of the World Snooker Championship after losing to former champion Kyren Wilson in the first round at the Crucible.

Moody led 6-3 going into the evening session, and extended that to 7-3 in the first frame of the second session, with a double into the right middle kicking off a break of 48.

But Wilson took the next three frames to completely shift the momentum of the match.

Moody was in control in the first of these frames and was on his way to making it a potentially unassailable 8-3 but missed a red that would have left Wilson needing snookers, after which the former world champion tied the frame at 65-65 and won off a re-spotted black.

A missed yellow after a fantastic long red by Moody preceded a break of 63 by Wilson to make it 7-5 before Moody again missed a yellow, this time to right middle, in the following frame, and Wilson won it with a break of 22.

After the mid-session interval, Moody was within touching distance of making it 8-6, but instead Wilson levelled the match. After a break of 68 from Moody, Wilson needed three snookers but clawed his way back into it and took the frame 74-68.

It went from bad to worse for Moody as Wilson made it five consecutive frames thanks to a break of 46, taking the lead for the first time in the match at 8-7 and making the pots that Moody was producing earlier in the contest.

Moody was now a shadow of the player that had stormed into a 6-3 lead, while Wilson was playing with renewed confidence, and making it six frames on the bounce by 69-2.

And Wilson got over the line after Moody missed the black that would have kept him in the match, with Wilson sealing it 10-7.
