This is after a remarkable day’s bowling in the Total Active Pairs at Elland CABC last Sunday (November 1), including a huge surprise in qualifying.

Nathan Dobson and his dad Mark, of Pudsey, and Peter O’Callaghan and Sheridan Patterson, of Shroggs Park, became the latest to qualify.

But the surprise package came in the O’Callaghan and Patterson partnership, with Peter only having bowled for four years and his partner Sheridan only having taken bowling up at beginning of this year.

But what a performance Sheridan put up, with quality bowling throughout her three games, while Peter showing real quality at times.

Their opening game against John Holden and Fern Beaumont looked difficult but they bowled the green in awesome fashion, were never behind and won to 10.

They were never behind in their second game either against Warburton and Jeffreys and took the game to 15.

In their qualifier against Pudsey’s Wolfenden and Brine they raced into a 14-5 lead, and 18-10, before the matched stretched to full corners and a come back looked on.

At 18-15 Wolfenden and Brine were counting three and Patterson’s last bowl perched on edge of green to count and wrap it up at the next end.

The Dobson family opened up with an impressive 21-9 victory, followed by a very hard encounter with Tony and Katrina Bannister, which was nip and tuck throughout, but eventually the Dobson’s won 21-19.

Their qualifier was against Joe bray and Paul Gill of Clayton and was evenly matched, with Bray and Gill leading 13-11, only for Nathan to outshine all three in the closing stages with his quality, helping his team to take the match at 21-14.
