Saturday afternoon’s heavy rain had a predictably disastrous impact on the Towergate Halifax League cricket programme.
Fixture secretary Peter Taylor reported that of the scheduled 30 contests for first and second teams, at least 24 had been confirmed as completely washed out, including all first team games.
“There are still four results outstanding, but I’m not hopeful of getting good news,” said Taylor on Sunday afternoon.
Some play was possible in the second team games at Blackley - where SBCI were the visitors - and Low Moor, where Shelf made 166-8 and the hosts were 33-0 in reply before the match was abandoned.
The washout at least brought joy to some, with Mytholmroyd securing the Division One title after Oxenhope were denied the chance to try and narrow the gap in what would have been a top-two showdown.
It was a similar story for Outlane, the dominant force in Division Two this season, who cannot now be caught by second-placed Bridgeholme.
