Ambler: Fax cannot afford to take their foot off the gas ahead of Swinton clash

Halifax prop Luke Ambler has warned that Richard Marshall's side can ill afford to ease off as they prepare for Sunday's Championship fixture against struggling Swinton at the Shay (3.0).

After climbing to fifth on the league ladder with a hat-trick of Easter wins over Oldham, Batley and Featherstone, Fax host the second-from-bottom Lions looking for a fourth successive victory.

But Ambler highlighted the unpredictability of this year’s league results as he warned his teammates against any sense of complacency.

“I genuinely don’t think any game is going to be easy this season,” he said.

“It’s just not the case this year that you can tick games off before you’ve played them.

Swinton have been testing teams; Oldham turned over Batley at the weekend.

“The focus this week is on recovering from Easter and preparing for Swinton with the same intensity we’d have if we were preparing for a full time team.

“We’ll give them the respect they deserve and go on out on Sunday and try and put our marker down.”

Last weekend’s 20-19 win over Rovers at least confirmed Fax’s return to something like their form of 2015 after an indifferent start to the year.

“People are quick to write you off, but the results in this competition this year are all over the place,” said Ambler.

“It’s such a strong league, which is a good thing for the game, and we never stopped believing, even when we were losing.

“We’ve come through Easter with three from three and confidence is on the up.

“It’s a long season, we’ve got 18 games left, and there’s a lot of rugby league to be played.”
