Karl Fairbank’s promoted side, beaten 18-16 at home by Myton Warriors the previous week, will be grateful they have no fixture next Saturday as they battle against a mounting injury list.

Joe Nicholson, Phil Taylor, Brad Radcliffe, Alex Milburn, James Marshall and Chyle Fisher were all missing while Jack Fairbank came off with a shoulder injury in the early stages of the contest in Leeds. Elland are also without influential Andy Shickell, who is still fulfilling his commitments down at Copley for Old Rishworthians.

Elland struggled to gel in a game hit by torrential rain.

Hunslet had four almost consecutive sets early on, Elland giving the ball away with handling errors each time, before Lloyd Templeton scored for the home side. Fullback Gary McClelland converted.

The rain lashed down across the pitch and Richard Wheelhouse kicked through and touched down out wide, The conversion was missed but Warriors led 10-0 at the break.

The weather brightened up in the second half and Elland made a come back.

Des Gibson passed from dummy half to big Cayci Pearson, who scored and added the conversion.

Some good passing from Elland then resulted in Ben Hinsley off-loading to Eathan Ingham, who scored an unconverted try in the corner for 10–10.

However, Elland couldn’t sustain the comeback despite the efforts of their man of the match, hooker Chris Cullimore.

Hunslet regained the lead with a McClelland penalty for offside near the posts and then ran in another unconverted try from Daryl Gaunt.
