Elland lose away to leaders

Elland paid the price for a sloppy start and some schoolboy errors when they lost 28-12 away to Conference Division One leaders Ince Rose Bridge yesterday.

The Wigan side drew first blood in the opening 10 minutes. Their hooker made a break, threw a dummy and then passed out to a supporting player who went through four tacklers to score. Prop Kenny Baker converted.

Good attacking play from both teams was met by stern defence before a nice back-hand pass led to another converted try for Ince.

Chris Dyson made a decent break but was judged to have fallen short of the line, leaving a half time score of 12–0.

Ince Rose started with a kick through and hack forward by a player who appeared to be offside, but the third converted try for the hosts was allowed to stand.

A breakthrough on the wing took the score to 22-0 and Elland appeared to be facing a heavy defeat.

However, Elland’s man of the match Andy Shickell took a well-placed pass from Ben Anderson to stretch out and score under the posts. Chris Cullimore converted.

Elland further narrowed the gap through Cayci Pearson, who drove over following a penalty, and Pearson converted.

However, the Lancastrians had the final say with another converted try.

Elland play Normanton Knights at home in round one of the Conference Cup next Saturday.
