Fax v Giants: Rained-off friendly will not be re-arranged

Halifax director Ian Croad has confirmed Sunday's postponed Infirmary Cup friendly against Huddersfield will not be re-arranged.

Calderdale Council scrapped the fixture on Saturday lunchtime in expectation that overnight rain would make the Shay playing surface unplayable.

That early decision, described as “ludicrous” by Giants managing director Richard Thewlis, prompted Fax to look at re-arranging the game for Wednesday night, an option turned down by their Super League neighbours.

Huddersfield didn’t want to play on Wednesday and there’s no other opportunity before the season starts on February 7,” said Croad.

Croad estimated the cancellation had cost Fax, who apparently lobbied Council officials to delay a final decision until a more-traditional Sunday morning pitch inspection, around £20,000 in lost revenue and said they were “considering their next move”.

On the field, coach Richard Marshall now takes his side to Super League outfit Widnes on Sunday (3.0) before a second and final warm up date at Keighley the following Wednesday (7.30).
