Grix sticks with same team as Fax prepare for rearranged clash with Dewsbury

Halifax coach Simon Grix will field the same 17 that would have played on Sunday when his side take on Dewsbury in a rearranged Championship fixture at the Shay on Tuesday night (7.45).

The round three contest was postponed on Sunday morning when the Rugby Football League’s match commissioner ruled the surface unplayable.

Tuesday’s rapid rearrangement will stop Fax slipping two games behind after last week’s washout at Featherstone, although it will leave them with just a four day turnaround before Saturday’s Challenge Cup fourth round game against Sheffield at Belle Vue, Wakefield (2.0).

“It’s not ideal in that respect, but neither was having two fixtures to try and fit into the calendar later in the season,” said Grix, who hinted at some scepticism over Sunday’s postponement.

“The match commissioner didn’t think it was playable at the weekend, which is his decision, but I think we’ve played in worse.

“I also looked at the Keighley-Newcastle game on Saturday, so I’m not sure where the consistency is.

“The pitch will have dried out a bit over the last two days, but it’s still going to cut up, which isn’t ideal for us or for Halifax Town.

“We’ll keep the same team that would have played Sunday and hopefully come up with the right performance.”

Fax will be without Huddersfield back rower Oliver Roberts, who has a knee injury, although his teammate Oliver Wilson is likely to figure.

In other Challenge Cup news, Siddal’s fourth round tie against Newcastle Thunder will be played at the Halifax club’s Chevinedge ground on Saturday, with a 2pm kick off.
