Halifax RLFC: Fun and freebies at family festival

Hundreds of supporters surged through the MBi Shay Stadium turnstiles for the Halifax Family Festival held two weeks ago.

Fans were treated to entertainment and freebies all day through engagement in activities provided by local organisations.

It wasn’t only fans who benefited though, as Halifax over 50’s group ‘Young @ Heart’ raised over £80 to keep funding their curling activities

Local amateur rugby league side Greetland All-Rounders raised over £45 towards kit and equipment

And #ANDYSMANCLUB kitted out fans with new awareness merchandise.

A highlight of the day was a win-win on the five-a-side court, where Halifax’s wheelchair rugby league side (pictured) gained exposure and had juniors whizzing round excitedly, having being given a unique opportunity to learn a new sport first hand from the 2016 Challenge Cup winners.

Adam bags three awards

Cook Islands prop Adam Tangata made history last week when his flawless season bagged him the three main awards at the Halifax RLFC end of season celebrations.

He is the first player to do so since the star man concept was introduced 20 years ago.

After collecting the star man award, Tangata went on to pick up the players’ player and the supporters’ player of the year trophies, having received a whopping 137 votes out of the 236 total, and giving the presenters a headache thinking of new questions to ask the winner!

Sky Try is extended

Halifax RLFC have extended their Sky Try initiative to cover the provision of rugby league coaching to years 3 and 4, allowing primary schools to build rugby league into their curriculum.  Contact [email protected] for details.
