Harrison: our backs didn’t sparkle

A last minute penalty from Town’s Carl Forber gave the home side a draw and meant Halifax went home with two points instead of three.

Harrison said: “I’m naturally disappointed that we didn’t win the game but at least we are going home with two.

“I can’t fault the players for their mentality and approach but I’m afraid the performance was not one of our best.

“We came here knowing it was going to be tough. Phil Veivers has come in and he will have improved the squad so we knew that we would have to work hard for what we got.”

Harrison said the biggest problem he had was preparing his players when they didn’t know what they would be up against.

“I didn’t know what their line-up was likely to be,” he added. “The one feature of the game for me was that their Wigan duel registration recruits were the best players on the field.

“I thought our forwards worked very hard, as they had to, but our backs just didn’t sparkle. We didn’t ask enough questions of Town when we had the ball.

“It was one of those games where we had it won, then lost it, won it back again and then late on had to settle for the draw.”

Halifax stay fourth in the Championship table but Workington are fourth from bottom, now without a win in their last six games.
