Jubilant Elland are on the up

Karl Fairbank’s men, needing a win in their last match to hold off the challenge of Pilkington Recs for the runners-up spot behind Kells, romped into a 38-6 interval lead and continued to pile on the points.

All seven backs got on the score sheet with centre Richard Crawshaw bagging a hat-trick and full back Joe Nicholson and winger James Marshall getting two each.

There was also a brace for prop Jorge Fairbank with the other touchdowns coming from Oliver Fairbank, Chris Dyson, Junaid Malik, Phil Taylor, Ben Bottomley and replacements Joe Fradgley and Ben Fairbank.

Elland’s star man, second rower Cayci Pearson, slotted eight goals and Nicholson kicked one.

Pilkingtons made it a painful final day for hosts Ovenden, crushing the Halifax side 64-4 after leading 36-4 at the break. Replacement Reece Ogden got the Four Fields men’s consolation try.

Siddal made things interesting at the top of the Premier Division with an 18-4 home success over leaders West Hull.

They laid the foundations for victory by taking a 14-0 interval lead and then produced some good defence to restrict the Humbersiders to just a try from fullback Brett Turner.

Siddal’s points came from five Chris Brooke goals and tries from Craig Sanderson and Tom Garratt.

West Hull now lead second-placed Siddal by two points with four rounds of fixtures left.

Siddal went above Lock Lane, who lost at Wath Brow Hornets and are now level on points with that side and Leigh Miners Rangers.

That trio are only one point behind Siddal. Lane have played one game more than the other title contenders.
