Marshall: Grix '˜an outside chance' to face Rovers

Halifax coach Richard Marshall has confirmed that winter signing Simon Grix could make his seasonal debut for the club in Sunday's Championship fixture at Featherstone (3.0).

Grix, a former King Cross junior, last played for his hometown club in 2004 before leaving for a 10-year stint with Super League outfit Warrington.

The Ireland international, who also coaches Fax’s reserve team, has not laced a boot in anger for more than 18 months after suffering a career-threatening leg fracture against St Helens in 2014.

But with the talented utility player now back in full training, he could be set for a surprise appearance at Post Office Road.

“Simon has an outside chance of playing this weekend,” confirmed Marshall.

“It’s not a certainty at this stage, by any means; don’t be surprised if he does, but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t.

“He’s done a full week with the team now and he’s at a stage now where he could do the job I would want him to.

“We won’t rush him though, in the same way we didn’t rush Miles Greenwood back after his injury.

“If the medical staff pull a face and want him to do another week’s training first, then that’s probably what we’ll do.”

Marshall is not short of selection options, with only forward Andy Bracek (ribs) and backs Ben Johnston (knee) and James Saltonstall (hip) definitely ruled out.

That leaves a clutch of players who missed the cut for the Easter Monday win over Bradford - former Rovers pair Gavin Bennion and Will Sharp, Ben Heaton, Ryan Maneely and Connor and Adam Robinson - all chasing inclusion.

“There might be a couple of changes,” said Marshall.

“But it’s a squad game and people are going to miss out.

Featherstone will be tough, they’ve had some good results and Jon Sharp’s got them firing again.

“We had a good result there last year though and we’ll be looking for another one.

“We’d lost three on the bounce going into the Easter programme and it would be nice to back up last weekend’s results and make it three straight wins now.”
