Murrell out of Leigh game, back for Easter?

Halifax captain Scott Murrell will be sidelined for around three weeks after undergoing plastic surgery on a hand injury.

Murrell suffered the injury early in last week’s 29-22 defeat in London, but remained on the field, scoring two tries as the visitors went within a whisker of downing their full time opponents.

The former Hull KR player has now had the wound repaired, but is certain to miss both Sunday’s showdown with Leigh at the Shay (3.0) and the Challenge Cup game against Pilkington Recs at St Helens’ Langtree Park ground the following week.

“Scott had a really nasty injury,” said coach Richard Marshall.

“He had plastic surgery on Monday and the prognosis from there was three to four weeks.

“I would like to have him back for the Easter games against Oldham and Bradford, but we’ll have to see how he heals.

“It happened early in the game, he got his hand under someone’s foot and the ‘blade’ on their boot has sliced him open.

“He played most of the game busted, which shows what kind of a player he is.”
