Painful defeat on coast for Crocs

Old Crossleyans suffered one of the heaviest defeats in their proud history when beaten 95-27 away to Bridlington in Yorkshire One yesterday.

Their depleted line-up was no match for the east coast side, who have started the season well and roared in a 41-6 interval lead.

Brid ran in six tries and added four conversions and a penalty while the Broomfield men had just two Ryan Sweeney penalties to show for their efforts before the break.

Things went from bad to worse for Crocs in the first 25 minutes of the second half as the home side added five more converted tries to stretch their lead to 76-6.

Crocs at last had something to celebrate on 68 minutes when Ginel Lupescu and Jack Hammond were prominent in a move which yielded a try for Raman Sembi, converted by Sweeney.

Brid scored again before Lupescu had a score ruled out. Crocs persisted and debutant Matthew Thornton touched down.

Sweeney converted and added the extras when Jack Hammond went over, to make it 81-27, but Brid scored two more converted tries to complete Crocs’ unhappy day.
