Runaway win for Elland

Elland crushed struggling Wigan St Judes 68-4 at Greetland yesterday to make it three wins out of seven following promotion to Division One of the National Conference League.

It had taken the visitors more than two and half hours to get to the ground due to delays on the M62 and their unhappy day continued from the first whistle.

Elland ran in 12 tries in total and scored 46 points without reply in the second half.

There was an impeccably observed minute’s silence for the late Danny Jones before the match.

Elland have raised more than £1,000 for the former Keighley and Halifax player’s family this week and many members of the club were heading to Keighley’s game today.

Karl Fairbank’s men scored an unconverted try in the first minute from Richard Crawshaw.

Andy Shickell and a long-distance effort from Chris Dyson added to the tally and two conversions from Phil Taylor made it 16-0 in less than 15 minutes.

Ben Anderson added a try converted by Taylor just before half time and Adam Lavin got Saints only points of the game from a good break.

It was one-way traffic after the interval with Judd Fairbank crashing over for two consecutive tries.

Joe Fradgley, James Marshall and Oliver Fairbank added to the try tally. Hooker Chris Cullimore capped a man of the match display with a long distance effort and Anderson picked up his second try of the game.

Ben Hinsley rounded off the scoring just before the final whistle.
