Shay game ‘the big one’ - Hay

Featherstone Rovers coach Andy Hay has stressed the importance of today’s Shay clash with Halifax (3.0)

The game has been dubbed the “£250,000 showdown” as it could have a huge impact on deciding who finishes second in the Kingstone Press Championship.

And with prize money of £450,000 for the team who finishes second, compared to £200,000 for the team finishing third, the fixture has enormous implications.

Rovers lost their last game, a 48-18 defeat against Leigh Centurions, but Hay is fully focused on today’s challenge.

Hay said: “Halifax is the big one. It’s a must-win game, and we need to get the three points.”

Featherstone look likely to be without Tim Spears, Jamie Cording, George Flanagan, James Mendeika and Liam Kent.

Halifax are currently one point ahead of Featherstone with three games remaining.

Hay’s Halifax counterpart Karl Harrison said: “We need to be at our best to even get anywhere near Featherstone, but I can assure you that we will be ready.”
