Tyrer: Fax are heading in the right direction

Centre Steve Tyrer says he believes in Halifax's vision for the future after penning a new two year contract with the club.

Tyrer, who has been at the Shay since the end of 2011, will not play again this season after breaking his arm in the 24-20 defeat by Featherstone.

Fax subsequently missed out on a top four Championship finish and a place in the Super 8s Qualifiers and will finish the year contesting the Championship Shield.

But despite that disappointment, the goalkicking threequarter says he is more than content with his decision.

“Despite what may have been in some papers, I never looked anywhere else,” said Tyrer.

“I love the place and I don’t foresee myself going anywhere else anytime soon.

“I believe in what we are doing here, despite what’s not happened for us this season.

“We messed up at Whitehaven and let go a big lead against Swinton; those are the games that cost us, not losing to Leigh or Featherstone last weekend.

“I think we will learn some lessons from this year and we need to stay positive about that.

“We need to go and win that Shield now; doing that would put us in a good direction for next season.”

Tyrer has already had surgery to repair his fracture and expects to be in full training by the time Fax return from their autumn break.

“It was a pretty devastating way to end the season,” he said.

“I snapped my radius and it was slightly out of place, so there are some screws and plates in there to help straighten it back up.

“It’s a long recovery, but I’ve got time on my side now and it’s just about getting ready for next year.

“Give or take a week or two, I’ll be ready for pre season and I should be doing full contact again in late November.

“The positive thing is that I’ve got a long build up now to come back faster, stronger, leaner; everything I can possibly be for next season.

“It’s going to be a tough year and I need to be the best I can be.”
