Fax ended a run of three straight league defeats with Easter wins over Oldham and Bradford, with their gutsy 14-10 effort against James Lowes’ full-time Bulls boosting confidence and morale ahead of Sunday’s showdown at Post Office Road.

“We have been in those positions before in close games this season and buckled, but I think the penny might finally have dropped,” said Tyrer.

“We defended our line like it was a final in those last few minutes against Bradford.

“When you’ve got Adam O’Brien and Lee Gaskell coming at you, with the pace that they’ve got, you’re dealing with two really good players there.

“But we had an aim to be two from two over Easter and we ticked that box, now we’ve got to kick on and take that form into Featherstone.

“The feeling in the camp is that we’ve turned a little bit of a corner.”

Tyrer, who returned to the side against the Bulls after injury, made a crucial contribution with the boot in a contest that finished two-tries-all, landing a brace of sideline conversions before the break and a 35 metre penalty in the second half.

“The goal kicking does win or lose you games,” said Tyrer..

“And as well as the defence and all the good things we did with the ball, it helped win us one on Sunday.

“Gaz (Moore) didn’t miss one against Oldham on Friday either, so it’s a department where we’re pretty reliable at the moment.”
