We’re up to date with rent, say Fax

Halifax RLFC have moved to try to quell speculation that they are behind with rent payments for the Shay to Calderdale Council.

In a statement on its website, the club claims it is up to date with its account on the Council’s ‘own interpretation’ of what was owed.

Club chairman Michael Steele said, “We decided that the continual harassment arising from complaints about arrears had to be brought to an end.”

Halifax said the issue was not resolved because “the Council has continuing liabilities to the club” and that how much Fax should pay for use of the stadium was still a bone of contention.

The statement said the rugby club played more to use the Shay than FC Halifax Town and that this was “unreasonable and must end.”

Fax said Town used the pitch more and cost the council more in terms of pitch maintenance.

Meanwhile, Halifax have announced the appointment of Craig Poskitt as commercial director. He has previously filled the same at Castleford Tigers and been chief executive at Featherstone Rovers.

Steele had also urged the stay-at-home fans to support Fax, who he said expected better than a third or fourth place finish in the Championship.

“Success requires resources, and those who support by watching results on paper or the media, do not support at all,” he said.

“If you don’t pay your admission money, you don’t support, and you become part of the problem.

“The club needs resources to recruit the best. The Board of Directors can’t continue, indefinitely, to fund shortfalls in income.

“We need those who have voted with their feet to return if our shared goals are to be achieved.”
