Fax make Rovers' Robinson their first signing for 2019

Halifax have confirmed the signing of the Featherstone Rovers winger Shaun Robinson on a one year contract.

Robinson has been linked with Fax some time after Rovers’ failure to break into the top four prompted a round of cost-cutting at Post Office Road.

Fax boss Richard Marshall thought he had clinched a deal for the former Swinton speedster 12 months ago, only for Robinson to opt to follow his former coach at Heywood Road, John Duffy, to Featherstone.

Robinson, one of the strongest dummy half runners in the Championship, puts pressure on incumbent wingers Will Sharp and James Saltonstall and will effectively replace Ben Heaton, with the utility back not expected to be retained.

“We’ve been tracking Shaun for some time now and I’m really pleased that we have managed to sign him,” said Marshall.

“We just missed out on him last year but it’s great that we’ve been able to make him our first signing for 2019.

“He has electric pace and is a real handful out of the ruck.

“Playing against him, we’ve always struggled with his carries and we’ve had to put some real time into stopping him on the training field to limit his threats.

“Thankfully, now we can utilise those abilities instead.

“He’s a great finisher of tries as well and I am sure that he will enhance our edge defence.

“I think the Halifax fans are going to love his pace and power from the wing.”
